Why We Started Healthy Lassen-Plumas-Sierra

Lake Almanor Burn Scar

It all started with a simple question: What if we had a place to share the best of what our small towns have to offer—together?

Healthy Lassen-Plumas-Sierra was born out of a love for northeastern California’s mountain towns and a desire to help them thrive. As someone who’s lived, worked, and built relationships across Lassen, Plumas, and Sierra Counties, I’ve seen firsthand how much heart and potential exists here—from the small businesses that serve with pride, to the trails, lakes, and hidden gems that make our region unforgettable.

This region is not just beautiful—it’s resilient. After the devastating Dixie Fire, the town of Greenville became a symbol of that resilience, showing what it means to rise from the ashes with courage, hope, and a fierce sense of community. Their ongoing efforts to rebuild from the ground up—shops reopening, neighbors helping neighbors, artists returning to create again—are a testament to the strength and spirit that runs through all three counties.

Yet, too often, each town can feel like an island. People in Loyalton might not know about a new café in Chester. A wellness event in Susanville might come and go before anyone in Portola hears about it. And with so many incredible artists, entrepreneurs, farmers, and practitioners quietly doing their work, we needed a way to connect the dots—to share stories, highlight opportunities, and celebrate healthy, vibrant living throughout the entire region.

That’s where this blog and its sister Facebook Group come in.

Healthy Lassen-Plumas-Sierra is more than a website. It’s a grassroots initiative to support regional connection. Whether you’re a local resident, a traveler looking for your next weekend getaway, or a business owner hoping to reach more people, this blog is here for you. You’ll find:

  • Spotlights on local businesses and makers
  • Features on community events and hidden treasures
  • Tips for healthy living and wellness in our unique mountain climate
  • Interviews and stories that inspire connection, creativity, and pride

This platform is growing—and so is the community behind it. If you’re part of what makes this region special, I invite you to reach out, share your story, or join the Healthy Lassen-Plumas-Sierra Facebook Group. Let’s lift each other up and build something beautiful—together.

With gratitude and hope,
